A publication owned by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on Wednesday praised newly-named Democrat vice presidential candidate Tim Walz for his "long ties" and "extensive connections" to China.
Noting that the Minnesota governor spent about a year teaching high school in China in 1989, the China Daily USA reported that Walz recalled that time as "an excellent experience"
that left him believing "I'll never be treated that well again."
"I don't fall into the category that China necessarily needs to be an adversarial relationship, I totally disagree," Walz said recently, according to a recent Daily Mail report.
"They [the Chinese] are such kind, generous people. They just gave and gave and gave to me. Going there was one of the best things I have ever done," the China Daily USA quoted Walz as saying, citing a 1990 story in the Scottsbluff (Neb.) Sun-Herald.
The CCP-owned publication also reported that Walz went on a two-week honeymoon to China with wife Gwen in 1994, accompanied by high school students for "sightseeing and classes on culture, education and history."
Walz also spent a year in China teaching high school as part of a Harvard University program, thus becoming one of the first group of American educators permitted by the Beijing government to teach there.
Shortly after he became governor in 2019, Walz urged then-President Donald Trump to end the trade war against China.
