An Alternative to Impeachment

By Tuesday, 12 August 2014 02:56 PM Current | Bio | Archive

We need a serious alternative to the ideas (a) of the House impeaching President Barack Obama for malfeasance in office, which is no longer possible or wise even to try, and (b) of the House seeking injunctive relief and punishment in the courts, possible only if “standing to sue” is granted and, even then, almost surely requiring months or even years to complete.

This next best course of action is a House resolution of no confidence – a comprehensive “Sense of the Congress” indictment whose adoption would amount to a de facto “conviction without eviction.”

This would be a formal verdict of the House without legal effect but with enormous symbolic, historical, and political impacts, not only on Obama himself but on many of his supporters in both House and Senate — with re-election or defeat in the mid-term elections being very much in play.

Here is a more detailed description of the president’s endless offenses, failures, scams, cover-ups, false promises, end-runs on Congress, and suspicious ideological and “crony capitalist” relationships which are highly destructive of public trust.
  • No confidence in Barack Obama's radical-left and blame America first upbringing, teenage mentoring, college education, ideological make-up, political and socio-religious associates and entire "progressive" (longtime code-word for Socialist) curriculum vitae — with a dozen targets worthy of unmasking
  • No confidence in his “perfectly clear” but patently false promises of a transparent, accountable, nonpartisan, post-racial, lobbyist-free, budget-conscious and completely "fair and balanced" administration
  • No Confidence in his routine modus operandi of blame-gaming, false denials, false claims of credit, class warfare
  • No confidence in his power-hungry reliance on dozens of unvetted and unaccountable regulatory "czars" and on scores of executive orders whose separation of powers and regulatory implications are truly frightening
  • No confidence in his radicalizing and even weaponizing parts of the civil-affairs bureaucracy, with many regulators (IRS, EPA, FEMA, Interior and others) now authorized to employ assault weapons and SWAT teams – and with aggressive “takings” of property, garnishment of wages and “sue-and-settle” litigation parts of their arsenals, as well
  • No confidence in his progressively worse (i.e., socialistic) takeover and misman-agement of the American healthcare system, and of a law-changing and reg-writing approach that goes far beyond congressional intent and the Constitution itself
  • No confidence in his crony-capitalist takeover and wasteful funding of most "green energy" initiatives, and impediments to fossil energy production, and on most Western federal lands, costing millions of jobs, billions in federal revenues, skyrocketing national debt, and huge loss of revenues to state and local governments
  • No confidence in his explosive and prone to "waste and fraud" expansion of welfare-state programs (food stamps, housing assistance, free cellphones, questionable disability status, extended unemployment benefits, Obamacare, Medicaid, child care, school lunches, ad infinitum
  • No Confidence in his constant manipulation of unemployment, economic growth, Obamacare, deficit spending, national debt, and so-called “climate change” numbers – e,g., the recent hoopla over “288,000 new jobs” in June when all this gain was in part-time jobs and when the loss of 523,000 full-time jobs went virtually unmentioned
  • No Confidence in his multiple scandals (Fast and Furious, NSA spying, IRS targeting, EPA persecutions, FOIA restrictions, Benghazi, VA healthcare, Bergdahl-Taliban prisoner exchange, the immigration crises)
  • No Confidence in his endless failures in military, homeland security, border control and foreign affairs, with multiple “leading from behind” and “squatting small” failures in Russia, Ukraine, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Gaza, Afghanistan and elsewhere
  • No Confidence in his across-the-board efforts to remove God, Jesus, Christmas, the Nativity scene, the Bible and major Judeo-Christian symbolism from U.S. government venues and usage, and from the public square in general.
Urgently needed for introduction by mid-September is a catch-all compilation that will have to be carefully edited and led by exactly the right House GOP group, possibly the 178-member Republican Study Committee, or even the GOP conference as a whole.

As finally worded, this resolution could include most of the alleged "high crimes and misdemeanors" which might in theory justify impeachment, and similar ones that might justify judicial sanctions, but would also contain many lesser offenses whose cumulative impacts might be just as confidence-shattering as the felonious ones.
