SarahPAC recently released a video titled “Game Change We Can Believe In,” featuring real footage from the 2008 election season that challenges the premise of the soon-to-be-released HBO film “Game Change.”
SarahPAC highlights the then-glowing commentary of McCain staffers Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt with respect to Palin’s poll-boosting power, gubernatorial approval ratings, focus, character, ability to draw a passionate crowd, excellent debate performance, and thoughtful approach to issues — a “once-in-a-generation politician.”
Interestingly enough, both Wallace and Schmidt became leading forces of criticism against Palin after McCain’s 2008 election loss. They also gave their nod of approval to the HBO film, whose trailer paints Palin as a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown and a depressed, Alaska-hating, self-centered, foreign policy nitwit.
Fascinating shift of opinion by Wallace and Schmidt, no? Glowing remarks in 2008, followed by a nod of approval to an obvious hit piece in 2012. Well, that’s precisely what the SarahPAC video brings to light.

Palin has poll-boosting power.

A columnist at The Washington Post was quick to “analyze” the SarahPAC video. In a column titled “Sarah Palin wants to rewrite ‘Game Change’ history,” Rachel Weiner asks, “Why is Palin and her team so focused on badmouthing ‘Game Change’?”
Let me take a shot at that one.
As I see it, it’s not a focus on “badmouthing ‘Game Change,’” but a commitment to setting the historical record straight. If the facts contradict the film, then why shouldn’t SarahPAC point that out? It would be absurd not to.
We no longer live in a world where the only acceptable option is to allow the media to distort and deceive without holding them accountable. I know that. And thankfully — so does Sarah Palin.
Weiner adds, “Palin would like to be remembered as the maverick who was too principled and independent for presidential politics, not the amateur who couldn’t cut it in the big leagues. Palin has also always had trouble ignoring her critics, a reflexive defensiveness that has dogged her since 2008.”
Let me take a shot at those too.
I have interviewed Sarah Palin, have researched her record extensively, got to spend some time with her at the premiere of "The Undefeated," and have followed her political career quite closely.
I think she would like to be remembered for who she is — a former governor who loves the state of Alaska (if she didn’t love it, why is she still there?), a woman who is proud of her political record (media, you’d see why if you ever reported the facts), a wife and mother who prioritizes faith and family, a vice presidential candidate who shook up a race by calling it like she saw it, and a regular American who has had the honor of speaking on the national stage for causes she believes in.
My guess is that Palin has “trouble ignoring her critics” when she sees lie after lie written and said about her. Guess what? I would too and so would you. Good for her for speaking up and setting that record straight.
After all, wouldn’t it be great if the history books got it right?
And as far as any description of her as an “amateur who couldn’t cut it in the big leagues,” well — that would just be downright hilarious.
Palin single-handedly lit up the 2008 McCain/Palin ticket in the polls (until McCain suspended the campaign due to the “historic crisis in our financial system,”), endorsed over 90 candidates in the 2010 election season with great success, and continues to inspire Americans throughout the country via speeches, commentary, and writing.
When it comes to the big leagues, I think it’s safe to say that if conservatives were to elect a team captain, she’d be right up there on our list.
As for Hollywood’s attempt to re-define Palin as someone the McCain camp viewed as an unstable idiot, I invite them to give it their best shot. Because Americans aren’t stupid. And frankly, the proof is in the footage.
As for the media, if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times — when your Palin-OCD acts up, take your meds.
