In 2020 many so-called Republicans came out and announced that President Donald Trump was not their kind of Republican and would neither support nor vote for his reelection. By not supporting Trump they were signaling that they thought Joe Biden would better represent their Republican views. They gave a few reasons why they did not like Trump. Some mentioned immigration policy, foreign policy, increased government spending and tariffs. They all said it came down to character.
I think it is time to check in with a few of those RINOs. We need to ask folks like Mitt Romney, Governors and former Governors Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, Phil Scott, John Kasich, Rick Snyder and others, like John Bolton, Jeb and George W. Bush, Carly Fiorina, Jeff Flake, Colin Powell and Cindy McCain if President Biden has been their kind of Republican.
Are they happy with Biden’s commitment to small government, fiscal responsibility and reducing the federal deficit which many of these RINOs claim are important? The U.S. government's budget deficit surged to an all-time high of $1.7 trillion for the first six months of this budget year, nearly double the previous record. That doesn’t even include the latest $1.9 trillion for the faux infrastructure bill. Is that why they supported Biden? Maybe it is the message coming from the HR-1 bill that will give the federal government control over states like never before? Small government? I don’t think so.
Could it be that they like how the Biden administration is dealing with China, Iran, Russia and North Korea? If they do, they might want to take another look. The Chinese were laughing at Secretary of State Antony Blinken and how inept his team was during their recent meeting. Taiwan is now under threat from China, which is flexing its military might throughout the Pacific. Iran is emboldened to enrich uranium until it is weapon grade. North Korea is again threatening the world. Russia is amassing troops at the Ukraine border. The world is not safer.
Let’s check in on President Biden’s character. We can start with his immigration policy: pulling out more and more of the Obama cages for children dumped on our border, inspired by his messaging that our borders are open to all, especially unaccompanied minors. What is the positive characteristic that puts these kids in cages, while opening the border to known drug dealers and terrorists?
Perhaps it is his commitment to redefining the U.S. Constitution? He is challenging what the Second Amendment means with executive orders. Biden went on to forcefully say, "No amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute." Mr. President, does that include the 13th Amendment banning slavery or the 19th Amendment allowing women to vote?
In all fairness, some of these RINOs are incredibly happy with President Biden. Obviously, the Lincoln Project folks benefited greatly by supporting President Biden. They all enriched themselves financially and showed their good character by ignoring the sexual harassment claims against fellow founder John Weaver. They did not let character get in the way of getting rich. Cindy McCain has also been happy with President Biden’s choices, especially her pending nomination as an ambassador.
Aside from those who have directly benefited from a Biden presidency, we have yet to hear from these Biden Republicans. Exactly which of their Republican values is the Biden administration displaying? It is time that they acknowledge that they may be misrepresenting themselves as Republicans, or that they suffered a temporary lapse in judgment. If they are truly Republicans, and not RINOs, they know that America would have been better off with the reelection of Donald Trump.
