The November Surprise From the Heartland

The November Surprise From the Heartland

The mainstream news media, the Congressional Democrats, and the left-leaning talking heads of television clearly loathe President Donald J. Trump and Republicans. Loathing maybe too mild a description. Hate is the word average Americans use to refer to the loathing of Trump by the Democrats, the news media, and their fellow travelers.

Meanwhile, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) prognostication by the Atlanta Federal Reserve as of August 24, 2018, for the 3rd quarter is estimated to be 4.6 percent up from the revised 4.2 percent national GDP for the 2nd quarter.

Americans are experiencing a rebirth of American financial strength, patriotism, prosperity, and self-worth. Average Americans may not accept all what President Trump tweets or what he says, but his economic recovery is working. Average Americans see this. His policies mean more than his words or those of his critics.

Average Americans are a silent majority — the heartland.

Trump won the heartland because average Americans felt Obama and Hillary did not care for them or America. Americans will never forget Hillary’s “deplorables” remark. Now, it appears the heartland contains some blue states.

During the last week of July 2018, a millennial in St. Paul, Minnesota told friends, “Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, and others see America self-destructing with self-hatred. This self-hatred is taught in schools, look in the Minnesota public schools.”

Continuing he said, “High school and colleges teach communism and socialism are better than democracy.” Adding, “Some 30-40 percent of Democrats favor Socialism. They have no idea what Socialism means. They have no idea where Cuba is, nor where Venezuela is and what is happening there.”

A friend chimed in, “Every major American city has killing, opioid, and homeless problems. Chicago — killings, San Francisco — a human wasteland in the streets, and Seattle — homelessness. Welcome to the Democrats’ Socialism in America.”

Another friend spoke-up, “There are already rumblings of a Republican being elected U.S. Senator from Washington state. The Seattle limousine radicals are beginning to feel like the French Aristos.”

Days later, at a truck-stop in Columbia, Missouri, the cashier/manager opined that Missouri would vote for Republicans even with Trump’s “boo-boos.” She added, “The Dems are so anti-American — they overlook daily Chicago killings, killings country-wide by illegal aliens, FBI corruption, and constant TV attacks on Trump.”

“The FBI ain’t what it used to be! Obama corrupted even the FBI. Look at the latest resignations and firings,” she smirked.

On August 21, 2018, at business conference in Indiana, attendees from financial interests around America and some 15 foreign nations exchanged thoughts and ideas.

In one group, an international commercial bank officer from Chicago in response to a question said, “China is in difficulty as we speak. Their infrastructure spending is too costly and weighing down other aspects of the economy. Add the military expenditures — a mighty tidy sum — and soon the world has a serious financial mess on its hands.”

The banker also stated, “China’s agricultural efforts are still third-world. Don’t hold me to the numbers, but China produces 36 bushels of corn per acre to the U.S.’s 200 bushels. This is true of soybeans. About 25 percent of U.S. soybeans go to China.”

A French attendee asked, “What effect will the Trump trade war have on U.S.-China financial ties?”

The banker answered, “In a year, Trump wins some, Xi Jinping wins some. Each declares victory. A Mexican standoff — pardon the pun.”

Pausing he said, “Trump, love him or hate him, is a dealer, a wheeler-dealer, not a politician. Remember, Trump’s slogan of ‘Make America Great Again’ is tempered by Xi’s ‘Chinese Dream.’ If that dream fades — look-out! China is more dangerous than Russia.”

As he spoke over-the-road trucks were bumper-to-bumper on the interstates — North-South and East-West — passing through Indiana. Every truck carried a message, “Drivers wanted 62 cents a mile” or “Employees Wanted.”

On Friday, August 31, 2018, an African-American high-school teacher in Glassboro, New Jersey, told some fellow teachers that she was sick and tired of being a political pawn. “Blacks are not one-dimensional, not brain-dead — true, some are drugged-up. Not all of us still believe we are beholden to the Democrats,” she said.

All her fellow teachers nodded as she continued, “I was a liberal, pro-abortion, a gun-control supporter, a feminist, and a church-goer. I am still a God-fearing woman. Now, I am an independent voter. I am voting for Republicans. I want civility, no street violence, and I want my religious freedom. That’s my view, Mr. Corey Booker!”

Another teacher spoke up, “Times are a changing — I am with you.”

As the Prussian military theorist Carl von Clausewitz said, “Who controls the heartland, controls Europe.” The original heartland statement was about Europe’s breadbasket land. Now it is about people — the American heartland.

November 2018 — The Winter of the National Discontent.

June 2019 — a Summer of growing national economy.
