The myth that "sanctuary locales" protect American citizens from the crimes of illegal aliens is a myth. The actual damage illegal alien criminals do is ignored by the mainstream media. The crimes committed by illegal aliens including murder, rape, and DUI are harming American citizens. They are purposely underreported by a sympathetic news media.

On July 7, 2012, the Democratic mayor of Chicago Rahm Emanuel announced a "Welcome to Chicago Ordinance" establishing the windy city as a sanctuary city for illegal aliens.

Chicago then joined some 60 localities across the U.S. choosing not to enforce federal immigration law. Emanuel formerly served as White House chief of staff in the Obama administration. He is a major advocate for sanctuary for illegal aliens.

In August 2012, the Chicago Tribune reported that Emanuel was calling for the assistance of federal law enforcement. President Obama (who after college moved to Chicago to become a community organizer) responded with 50 federal agents. Their assignment was to reign in the shootings and killings by transnational criminal gangs who are tying Chicago in knots. The feds appeared to have had no impact.

The current code word for Chicago’s daily shootings and killings is not murder but "violence." No mention is made by the mayor or the Democratic officials that gangs committing such violence are Hispanic and include large numbers of illegal aliens.

Chicago, Ill. now ranks above Montgomery County, Md., and Los Angeles, Calif., both with sanctuary designations, as home to the nation’s most vicious illegal alien criminal gangs.

In 2016, Chicago registered 786 or 762 homicides and 4, 368 or 4,331 people shot. Numbers vary according to the reporting organization. The Chicago officials always opt for the lowest number — not always the correct number.

In June 2017, President Trump announced sending more feds to Chicago to prosecute gun crimes. The Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Bureau (ATF) of the Department of Justice (DOJ) agents will augment the city and county police, but not do the day to day patrols necessary to stop violence.

Since Chicago is a sanctuary city local law enforcement officers cannot question criminals about their citizenship. By doing street policing, federal agents would find themselves complicit in violating U.S. immigration law — not determining a suspected criminal’s citizenship.

Chicago recorded the most violent weekend in recent years. The Fourth of July weekend, 2017. According to the Chicago Tribune, during that time, at least 101 people were shot and at least 15 people died. Chicago police reluctantly say that assault rifles are now used by the Hispanic gangs, such as MS-13, Barrio 18, and The Latin Kings.

The exact number of gang members in Chicago is guess-work but ranges from 68,000 to 150,000 members in 70 to 100 gangs. Politicians and social justice activists do not acknowledge that the vast majority of gang members are illegal aliens. Chicago, with its large Hispanic gang presence as well as a large illegal alien population, is providing safe haven to criminals to the detriment of law-abiding citizens.

Although law enforcement officials estimate that the Latin Kings is the largest crime gang in Chicago, other observers believe MS-13 or Surenos (Mexican Mafia gang) may have the most gang members. The city also has Black crime gangs, whose power is being diminished by the sheer number of Hispanic gang members. The Black gangs, with a majority of their members U.S. citizens, appear to be joining forces to combat the intrusion of Hispanic gangs.

Thus far, no one knows how to stop the Chicago "violence" — not the Chicago Crime Commission, Chicago Justice Project, Chicago Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), ATF, social-justice nuns, nor especially, Democratic politicians.

President Trump and Congress have ideas. The Republican Senate and House passed three immigration-oriented bills and the president signed them. They are, The David-Oliver Act of 2017, The No Sanctuary for Criminals Act, and Kate’s Law. The Trump administration and the GOP Congress kept some of their immigration promises

The Republican-controlled Congress and the Republican president have started the ball rolling for safe American streets but these legislative accomplishments are just a beginning.

Yet, Democrats opposed these laws and will continue to oppose all laws protecting Americans from illegal alien criminals. Democrats believe illegal aliens are a protected class. The majority of Americans disagree wanting safer streets, less illicit drug smuggling, less criminal gang violence, and local law enforcement with more federal support.

A threadbare and false narrative that the Democratic party and open-borders advocates spin, is that immigrants will not cooperate with law enforcement in matters involving crimes if they fear deportation. Chicago debunks this falsehood. Any alleged cooperation between immigrants and police has had no visible impact reducing Chicago’s daily homicides and shootings.

All the while, in sanctuary locales, the rule of law has yielded to gang rule.
