1. Bruce Springsteen's Far-Left Turn
Gone are the days of the arm-swinging "Dancing in the Dark" and foot-stomping "Hungry Heart."
Instead it looks like Bruce Springsteen has caught the Babs bug.
Or maybe he's been listening in his sleep to Beyonce's latest because he's definitely drifted way "to the left."
Although Springsteen did help campaign for Democratic candidate John Kerry during the 2004 presidential election, endorsing a candidate for the first time, his music and musings are now reflecting the views of far-left Hollywood and the candidate controlling MoveOn.org.
Former Rolling Stone critic and current Springsteen manager Jon Landau is trying to convince the press that the artist's new album, "Magic," is not political. But the "Gypsy Biker" song has lyrics that suggest otherwise.
Take a look:
The speculators made their money,
On the blood you [a U.S. soldier] shed,
The profiteers on Jane Street [upscale area in Manhattan],
Sold your shoes and clothes.
In addition, Springsteen sat for a spell with "60 Minutes" correspondent Scott Pelley to, among other things, wax geopolitical.
The Boss focused on issues that have been stressed by far-left Web sites like MoveOn and Daily Kos including CIA interrogation techniques, the domestic surveillance program and detention of terrorist suspects at Guantanamo, placing the issues in the "anti-American" category.
"I think we've seen things happen over the past six years that I don't think anybody ever thought they'd ever see in the United States," Springsteen said.
"When people think of the Unites States' identity, they don't think of torture. They don't think of illegal wiretapping. They don't think of voter suppression. They don't think of no habeas corpus."
Actually, he's right. They don't think of those things.
When people think of the United States' identity, they think of a country where kids of working class parents grow up to become rich rock stars.
2. Brad Pitt Endorses George Clooney for President
Lib political pundits having been breathlessly awaiting actor-activist Brad Pitt's announcement of his choice for leader of the free world.
Would it be Hollywood fave Barack-star Obama, socialist sweetie-pie Hillary Clinton or Internet idol Ron Paul?
Pitt recently revealed who he'd like to see running the country — fellow Oscar-chaser George Clooney.
The "Assassination of Jesse James" lead urged the "Michael Clayton" star to seek the White House, according to Parade Magazine.
"George should do it! He'd be quite good," Pitt told Parade.
For second choice, Pitt picked Ben Affleck.
What about Pitt going after the job himself?
"I never thought about it," Pitt said. "I have no desire at this point. Maybe I serve better by not going through that door."
Note the "at this point" wiggle words. Looks like Pitt is a politician after all.
3. Leonardo DiCaprio To Build ‘Green Hotel' in Belize
A Hollywood actor getting into the hotel building biz? Just what a Caribbean paradise needs.
Belize is a jewel of a country about the size of New Hampshire, situated just south of Mexico in Central America. And it's about to be treated to a new luxury hotel to be developed by Leonardo DiCaprio.
The actor-activist has contracted with Four Seasons Resorts to create a hotel with a Tinseltown twist. According to DiCaprio, this hotel will be "green."
Of course, DiCaprio will have to travel to his environmentally friendly Caribbean getaway in a green mode of transportation.
Wonder how long it takes to get to Central America by pogo stick.
4. PETA Goes After Britney Spears' Pets
After being ordered to surrender custody of her children to ex-husband Kevin Federline, Britney Spears now has to suffer the indignation of being pestered by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
A PETA rep, Michael McGraw, said that the group's president wrote a letter to Federline asking him to seek legal custody of Spears' pets.
"PETA fears that the dogs may be in danger," McGraw said.
PETA pointed out that Britney takes her Yorkshire terrier puppy named London along with her to nightclubs and shopping malls.
McGraw also notes that the kids could use the presence of the pets right now, saying, "The companionship of beloved animals can make a world of difference for the kids during this obviously difficult time."
5. L.A. Judge Snoop Dogged by Plaintiff
An L.A. judge was shocked to find out that, in a civil case, a plaintiff by the name of Calvin Broadus was actually infamous rapper Snoop Dogg.
During the first hearing of the Snoop suit against his former record label, Priority Records, for alleged unpaid royalties of over $2 million-plus, Superior Court Judge Helen I. Bendix indicated that she had no idea that Broadus and the hip-hopper were one and the same.
"Now I realize who we're talking about here. I didn't recognize the nonprofessional name, so to speak," Bendix admitted.
While the judge may not have known the name, workers at L.A. area courts are quite familiar with the handle.
In April, Broadus, aka Dogg, pleaded no contest to felony weapon and marijuana-possession charges and was ordered to perform more than 800 hours of community service.
In September, Broadus pleaded guilty to possession of a dangerous weapon, a felony, and was again given a celebrity sentence of three years informal probation and 160 hours of community service and ordered to make a $10,000 charitable contribution.
Maybe the Hollywood courts need to bring someone new to the bench — Judge Judy.
