Tammy Bruce - Independence Matters

Tammy Bruce, a tea party independent conservative, is a radio talk-show host, New York Times best-selling author, blogger, and Fox News political contributor. A lifelong Democrat until 2008 when she registered as unaffiliated, Bruce worked on a number of Democratic campaigns in 1990s, including Barbara Boxer's and Dianne Feinstein's senate races and the Bill Clinton presidential campaign. Bruce also has a history of supporting Republicans, including President Ronald Reagan, both President Bushes and, quite reluctantly, John McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign. In 2008 Bruce decided to reject any party affiliation and became a national advocate for the tea party and its foundational conservative principles.

In addition to her media work, she speaks to a variety of groups and institutions nationwide, including colleges, businesses, and civic organizations with her speech, “Contrary to Popular Belief: How Conservative Ideas Empower Women, Gays and Blacks.” A native of Los Angeles, Bruce holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Southern California and is a Ph.D. Candidate at Claremont Graduate University.
