Tim Robbins Denied Ballot, Raises Stink

By    |   Tuesday, 04 November 2008 06:35 PM EST

Liberal activist and actor Tim Robbins created a scene when his name did not turn up on the voter lists at his Manhattan polling place.

The “Mystic River” star arrived at the polling station Tuesday morning and was “surprised and dismayed” that his name was not on the list of eligible voters, The New York Times reported.

“The issue is that they removed my name from the voting rolls,” he complained.

“My name was there for the primaries.”

At one point a poll worker who tried to get the insistent actor to move threatened to call over a police officer.

“Is this some kind of intimidation? I’m taking this as intimidation,” Robbins responded.

He said he was prepared to be arrested if necessary.

Robbins and his longtime partner, actress Susan Sarandon, have been active in liberal causes and encouraged voters to battle against disenfranchisement, according to The Times.

Ironically, Robbins had appeared on a recent installment of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” and told viewers: “Refuse provisional ballots … If that’s your last resort, take it, but fight in the polling place to vote.”

Robbins eventually journeyed to the Board of Elections office, where officials did verify that he was a properly registered voter.

The mix-up was apparently caused by duplicate registrations on file, one under the name Tim Robbins and the other under Timothy Robbins, with two different addresses.
