During Monday’s Democratic presidential debate, Hillary Clinton referred to Barack Obama supporter Tony Rezko as a “slum landlord.” Now a photo has surfaced showing Hillary with that very same Rezko.
The photo — which shows real estate developer and fast-food magnate Rezko standing between Bill and Hillary Clinton — appeared Friday morning on the Drudge Report Web site.
Obama has apologized for engaging in a land deal with Rezko while he was in the Illinois legislature. Rezko has also contributed thousands of dollars to Obama’s campaigns
Hillary was confronted with the photo during an interview on NBC News Friday morning. She claimed she didn’t know Rezko, adding: “I probably have taken hundreds of thousands of pictures … I wouldn’t know him if he walked in the door. I don’t have a 17-year relationship with him,” alluding to Obama’s ties to Rezko.
She also said: “There’s a big difference between standing somewhere taking a picture with someone you don’t know and haven’t seen since and having a relationship that … the newspapers in Chicago have been exploring.”
Rezko faces a Feb. 25 trial, almost three weeks after the Super Tuesday primaries, Fox News reports.
He is charged with fraud, attempted extortion and money laundering for allegedly plotting to get campaign money and payoffs from firms seeking to do business before two state boards.
Once that trial is behind him, Rezko faces a separate federal charge of swindling the General Electric Capital Corp. out of $10 million in connection with the sale of pizza restaurants.
