Arrest Warrant Issued for Cindy Sheehan

Thursday, 27 September 2007 10:56 PM EDT

A superior court judge in Washington, D. C., issued a bench warrant Thursday for Cindy Sheehan, after the anti-war activist failed to show up for arraignment on charges stemming from her arrest on Sept. 10 for disorderly conduct at the U.S. Capitol.

According to Fox News, the warrant orders her arrest and delivery to the court.

Sheehan was arrested as Gen. David Petraeus was delivering his report to the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.

Sheehan and several other protesters were arrested outside the hearing room and were charged with disorderly conduct.

Sheehan was a fixture in Crawford, Texas, protesting the war during President Bush's visits to his ranch. But in May she "resigned" as the face of the anti-war movement she galvanized with her roadside vigil in 2005 and later said she would challenge U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her congressional seat in California unless Pelosi initiated impeachment proceedings against the president by July 23.

The deadline came and passed and in August Sheehan tearfully announced plans to run as an independent candidate.

Her son Casey, a 1st Cavalry Division soldier, died in 2004 in Iraq.
