Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani says he is “absolutely” open to running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
“I will take a look at 2012,” he said Thursday night on CNBC’s “The
Kudlow Report.”
“It’s really a question of, can I play a useful role? Would I have a chance of getting the nomination? Those are things that I’ll have to evaluate as the year goes along.”
Asked if the door to a 2012 run is open, Giuliani declared: “Yes, yes, absolutely.”
Giuliani “thinks the Republican race will be populated with far-right candidates like Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, and there’s an opportunity for a moderate candidate with a background in national security,” a source told the New York Post earlier this month.
Giuliani was mayor of New York during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
He ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, but withdrew after losing several primaries and endorsed Sen. John McCain.
