RSC Offers Budget Plan with $9.1 Trillion in Cuts

By    |   Friday, 08 April 2011 10:31 AM EDT

House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., created quite a stir this week when he released a budget proposal calling for $6.2 trillion in spending cuts over the next decade. Now the House Republican Study Committee (RSC), chaired by Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, has gone even further, The Hill reports.

committee, budget, plan, 9 trillion, cutsIt offered a plan Thursday that would slash spending by $9.1 trillion during that period. The 176-member RSC will present its “Honest Solutions” proposal as a floor amendment to the 2012 budget resolution next week. The House Budget Committee passed a Republican-designed budget late Wednesday.

The amendment will probably fail, but it shows that many Republicans are serious about implementing major spending cuts to shrink a budget deficit that is currently slated to stay above $1 trillion for years to come.
