Obama Thrashing Hillary in S.C.: Rasmussen

Barack Obama has opened up a 12-point led over rival Hillary Rodham Clinton in South Carolina, according to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey.

In the poll, Obama attracts 42 percent of the vote to Clinton's 30 percent. John Edwards is in third place with 14 percent, and no other Democrat gets more than 3 percent.

Clinton led Obama in the state by 10 points in November, and they were tied in December.

South Carolina's primary is Jan. 26.

Other results of the poll:

  • Obama now attracts 58 percent of the African-American vote.

  • Among white voters, 32 percent support Clinton, 29 percent support Edwards, and 27 percent back Obama.

  • Obama leads by 17 points among men and eight points among women.

  • Eighty percent have a favorable opinion of Obama, 79 percent say the same about Clinton, and 75 percent offer a positive assessment of Edwards.
