Hillary Aides Slam 'Sexist' Attack on Palin

By    |   Thursday, 04 September 2008 03:04 PM EDT

Former aides to Hillary Clinton have criticized “sexist” attacks on Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin questioning her devotion to her family.

“Sarah Palin found some unlikely allies Wednesday as leading academics and even former top aides to Hillary Rodham Clinton endorsed the Republican charge that John McCain’s running mate has been subject to a sexist double standard by the news media and Democrats,” Politico reported on Thursday.

Responding to questions as to whether Palin is neglecting her family in pursuit of national office, former top Clinton strategist Howard Wolfson declared: “There’s no way those questions would be asked of a male candidate.”

Palin is the mother of five, with one pregnant teenage daughter and an infant son with Down syndrome.

Paul Singer, who worked with Wolfson on the Clinton presidential campaign, said: “There’s no question that the issues a woman has to deal with are different. The real indictment that needs to be prosecuted is about her views, not her personal life.”

He said Hillary had also been victimized by sexist news coverage, Politico noted, reporting that Singer cited articles “on Clinton’s cleavage, and whether she had the personality of a ‘bitch.’”
