Obama Marks Anniversary of Deadly Attack on CIA

Thursday, 30 December 2010 06:38 PM EST

HONOLULU (AP) — President Barack Obama is marking the anniversary of last year's deadly attack at a remote outpost in Afghanistan, saying the seven CIA employees who were killed showed the true meaning of honor and selfless sacrifice.

In a statement, Obama says the U.S. is more secure because of the work of those in the intelligence community. He says he will ensure that dedicated intelligence professionals have the training and tools they need to complete their missions.

The CIA employees were killed one year ago on a U.S. base in the southeastern province of Khost by a suicide bomber who officials later said was a Jordanian double agent.

The White House released the statement from Hawaii, where Obama is vacationing with his family.
