Obama Using Female Surrogates

By    |   Friday, 05 September 2008 04:45 PM EDT

The Barack Obama campaign is seeking to counter the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate by deploying female surrogates in key swing states.

On Monday, Sen. Hillary Clinton will campaign for Obama in Florida, her first appearance on his behalf since the Democratic convention.

“With the McCain-Palin team courting undecided female voters, including some who backed Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Obama aides said they were counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to rebut Palin — and by extension, Mr. McCain,” The New York Times reported.

Those governors include Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, according to The Times.

On Thursday, Sebelius linked Palin to the unpopular President Bush. "She mastered the words written by the Bush speechwriters and delivered them well,” the Associated Press reported. “But what we didn't hear was what people talk to me about every day."

Obama aides are reportedly concerned that Palin, as a “hockey mom” with a special-needs child, would appeal to some undecided women voters.

So a “rapid response team” is being created in Chicago, The Times disclosed, “to dispatch female surrogates around the country.”
