Novak: Edwards, Obama Deal May Be in the Works

By    |   Monday, 28 January 2008 05:25 PM EST

Democrats in Illinois close to presidential hopeful Barack Obama are passing the word behind the scenes that rival Democrat John Edwards would land the attorney general post in an Obama administration, according to syndicated columnist Robert Novak.

“Installation at the Justice Department of multimillionaire trial lawyer Edwards would please not only the union leaders supporting him for president, but organized labor in general,” Novak writes.

“The unions relish the prospect of an unequivocal labor partisan as the nation’s top legal officer.”

Novak suggests that if the Democratic National Convention becomes deadlocked, the prospect of the attorney general position could convince Edwards to turn his delegates over to Obama.
