Newsmax Soars in Web Ratings

Newsmax.com has soared in Web traffic, according to the latest results from Nielsen Online.

Newsmax drew nearly 3.9 million unique visitors during the month of January, becoming the Web leader among independent news sites like the Huffington Post, DrudgeReport and Salon. (See selected rankings below.)

“We are pleased that more Americans are turning to Newsmax for their news,” said Christopher Ruddy, editor and CEO of Newsmax Media, Inc. “We find that when new readers discover us, they keep coming back and we keep growing.”

Newsmax was founded in 1998 and has become a powerful force on the Web.

If Newsmax.com was ranked with the Web sites for the top 10 daily newspapers in the nation, it would rank fifth, right behind Latimes.com and ahead of the Chicago Tribune’s Web site.

Newsmax draws a powerful demographic. A 2006 Nielsen Online @Plan report found that Newsmax.com had one of the highest concentrations of Republican readers on the Web.

Other demographic surveys show that Newsmax draws a highly affluent and well-educated audience.

“Advertisers have been flocking to us,” Ruddy said, adding, “We have a very active and responsive audience that buys big ticket items on the Web.”
