The Republican governor who gave Massachusetts mandatory health care is applauding a judge’s ruling this week against the de-facto federal version of his program, The National Journal reports. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America today to explain the seeming contradiction by falling back on a favorite conservative tune: states rights.
“States have rights the federal government doesn’t have,” Romney said.
A likely GOP presidential candidate in 2012, Romney

might have to downplay having “Romneycare” on his resume since that signature policy achievement doesn’t appeal to the party’s base and could hurt him in the primaries. So while he’s out promoting the paperback release of his political manifesto, “No Apology: The Case for American Greatness,” Romney is also hailing the latest decision by a federal judge to strike down the national health care overhaul.
