Barack Obama’s wife Michelle launched a scorching attack on her husband’s chief Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, saying she represents “the same old thing over and over again.”
Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas 48 hours before the Nevada caucuses, Michelle Obama — a lawyer and Harvard graduate — did not mention Hillary by name, The Telegraph reported. But no one in the crowd doubted that Clinton was her target as she said:
“I get confused when people say there are a lot of choices in this race. There are so many more experienced candidates. My response is, no, that’s not true. You’ve got two choices in this race.
“You’ve got the same old thing over and over again that hasn’t worked for regular folks in my lifetime. And then we have Barack Obama.”
Referring to her husband’s 2004 Senate campaign in Illinois, Michelle declared: “They said he was too young. They said he was too inexperienced. They said he should wait his turn…
“They said his name was too funny. They said there was no way that white folks in downstate Illinois [would] vote for a man named Barack Obama. They said it because when power is confronted by change, they will say anything.”
During her visit to Nevada, Michelle did commit a minor gaffe by mispronouncing the name of the state.
She was introducing her husband by saying how happy she was to be in Nuh-VAH-duh. The crowd at the University of Nevada-Reno immediately burst into heckles.
Residents of the state are adamant that the correct pronunciation is Nuh-VAD-uh, with a hard a, as in “craps” or “blackjack,” according to the Associated Press.
Obama immediately realized her mistake. “Nuh-VAD-uh! Oh, no,” she said, putting her head in her hands as she realized her blunder.
