Boehner: 'Too Many People in the Room'

Friday, 15 Jul 2011 06:50 AM

House Speaker John Boehner says the best way to reach a deal is to have fewer people debating, Politico reports.

There are “too many people” in the room negotiating with the president when the two sides meet to work out a deal to raise the debt ceiling, Boehner complained on Thursday night.

"Whatever gets suggested, it gets debated to no end,” the Ohio Republican said on Fox News’s “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren.”

“The room’s too big. You know, too many people are in there trying to negotiate what is a very difficult — could be and will be a very difficult agreement. And there’s just too many people in there pouring cold water on virtually every idea that gets thrown on the table.”

He says everyone, including the president, is frustrated.

“I’ve been pushing the president all year to address this in a big way,” he said. “I don’t want to do some half-hearted thing. I don’t want to do some half-baked gimmick. We’ve got a problem. The American people sent us here to solve the problem. So why don’t we do what we’re supposed to do, solve the problem?”
