Kyl: Budget Disputes Won’t Shut Down Gov't

Many people are concerned that disagreement between Democrats and Republicans over the budget will lead to a government shutdown. Not to worry, says Republican Senate Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona, The Hill reports.

"Well, the government isn't going to shut down," Kyl tells Greta Van Susteren of Fox News. "Nobody is talking about shutting the government down." The two parties will compromise on a short-term spending measure to keep the government funded if an agreement for the rest of the fiscal year isn't reached before federal funding expires, he says.

And if Democrats reject a Republican proposal to fund the government through Sept. 30, they'll properly be called "the new party of no," Kyl explains.
