Video Shows More Bizarre Behavior by Loughner

Saturday, 15 January 2011 05:18 PM EST

TUCSON, Ariz. (Reuters) - A rambling home video narrated by shooting suspect Jared Lee Loughner shows more unusual behavior by the man accused of killing six people and wounding 13 in a spray of gunfire a week ago.

Loughner does not appear in the video, released late Friday by Pima Community College, and widely available on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFT_l8rKJj8).

It shows images captured by the murder suspect as he walks around the college campus, rambling about the government and complaining about his grades. Loughner was kicked out of the school for what officials described as disturbing behavior.

"Alright, so here's what we're doing. We are examining the torture of students," Loughner narrates as he walks past classrooms.

Loughner is charged with five federal counts for allegedly firing into a crowd outside a grocery store in Tucson on Jan. 8, killing six people and wounding 13, including U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who remains in critical condition at a Tucson hospital.

Doctors performed a tracheotomy on Giffords Saturday, inserting a breathing tube through a hole in her neck and removing her from a ventilator, hospital officials said.

It was the first time Giffords was removed from the ventilator since she was shot through the head.

Doctors have expressed satisfaction with Giffords' recovery from the bullet wound. In recent days, she has opened her eyes, is tracking movement of objects before her and following simple commands, such as raising her fingers and wiggling her toes.

In the four-minute video, Loughner, a 22-year-old former Pima student, calls illegal the "war we are currently in," presumably referring to the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He says teachers at the college are paid illegally and are an "illegal authority over the Constitution of the United States under the First Amendment."

He rambles about mind control and says he is "pissed off" about a "B" grade in a class and that he will be homeless because of the college. Loughner can be heard breathing hard at one point.

"This is genocide in America. Thank you. This is Jared from Pima College," Loughner says before the video ends.

Pima Community College said Loughner was suspended after "five contacts with (campus) police for classroom and library disruptions" and the discovery of an online video he made that officials found disturbing.

Police Friday released a timeline of Loughner's activities the night before the shooting rampage.
