The congresswoman who skipped the White House state dinner for China’s leader made good on her promise to confront him on Capitol Hill, the Naked Politics blog of the Miami Herald reports. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen said she pressed Chinese President Hu Jintao in person
on Thursday to improve the country’s “deplorable” human rights situation.
At a meeting between Hu and lawmakers of both parties, Ros-Lehtinen also handed him a copy of a letter she had written to President Barack Obama saying Chinese currency manipulation is “costing Americans jobs.”
She also told Hu that China must stop using forced abortions to control its population. “I was astonished when he insisted that such a policy does not exist,” Ros-Lehtinen said.
