Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee says an independent group supporting him is not part of his his campaign, and he wishes the effort would halt.
“It’s not on behalf of my campaign,” Huckabee said at a campaign stop in Iowa, according to the New York Times. “I don’t know who is behind it. We’ve asked them to stop. I don’t think it’s helping us. In fact, it’s hurting us, and it’s not part of our campaign. We have publicly repudiated the tactics because they do not represent our kind of campaigning.”
Huckabee was referring to Common Sense Issues Inc., a group that has been calling and mailing Iowa residents on Huckabee's behalf in the days leading to the state's caucuses in January.
Common Sense Issues Inc.'s executive director, Patrick Davis, told The Associated Press that the calls were “personalized educational artificial intelligence.”
