House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer is trying to continue the bipartisanship that lead to Congress’ budget agreement last week by approaching House Speaker John Boehner to reach an agreement on raising the debt limit,
Politico reports.

In a letter to Boehner Tuesday, Hoyer urged the speaker to work for a bipartisan solution on the issue. Hoyer indicated he can work with Boehner on a debt limit deal if the speaker rejects dramatic spending cuts, including Medicare and Social Security. While that may not pass muster with Republicans, Hoyer is looking for compromise.
“What I’m saying to John is, ‘Look, we need to do this in a bipartisan way,’” he told Politico. “I’m open to discussing with Boehner, with the speaker, how this gets done.”
