Dick Morris: Hillary VP Will Be Bill Richardson

By    |   Monday, 22 October 2007 05:39 PM EDT

Political strategist Dick Morris says Hillary Clinton will “cruise” to the Democratic presidential nomination – and probably choose New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson as her vice presidential candidate.

In an interview with the Winston-Salem Journal in John Edwards’ home state North Carolina, Morris was asked if there was any scenario that could lead to Edwards gaining the Democratic nomination.

“He is dead in the water,” Morris opined. “No, there is no scenario…

“His last hope was that he had a residual lead in Iowa, because of his campaigning there in 2004 and his obsessive attention to the state since then. But that lead has now vanished, and Hillary’s ahead and I think she’s going to have an easy cruise to the nomination…

“I think she’d be a terrible president, but I do think she’s going to win.”

Morris said “single moms” will be the deciding factor in the 2008 election, and they lean toward Hillary.

Asked if Clinton can bring out enough single moms to carry red state North Carolina, Morris told the Journal: “Yes, I do. I also think she’ll probably put Richardson on the ticket with her, and I think she’ll attract many more Hispanic and Latino voters to come out.”

Morris – co-author with Eileen McGann of the book “Outrage: How Illegal Immigration, the United Nations, Congressional Ripoffs, Student Loan Overcharges, Tobacco Companies, Trade Protection, and Drug Companies Are Ripping Us Off” – said there is one step Republicans can take to avert a big Democratic win in 2008.

“I think that if the voters of the country understood the dangers that face us from domestic terrorism and the narrowness of the escape we’ve had from plots to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge or the tunnels leading into New York City, any of the major terror threats we’ve had … I think they would think twice about electing someone [as president] with no real experience at running anything.

“And I think the Republicans need to turn to [Rudy] Giuliani. He’s the only one who can make that issue against Hillary and make it stick.”
