Gore Silent on Calls He Run

Thursday, 11 October 2007 11:08 PM EDT

Despite boisterous encouragement to run for president in 2008, former Vice President Al Gore remained silent Thursday night about his thoughts on a White House bid.

Appearing in San Francisco at a fundraiser for Sen. Barbara Boxer, Gore spoke about his pet subject, global warming. He said it is critical for citizens and leaders to be "coming to an agreement on how we can work together, quickly, to solve these moral imperatives and crisis," according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "We have to call upon our courage as free men and women ... and it's our whole civilization that's at risk."

When Gore finished speaking, the audience of about 450 people erupted in thunderous chants of "Run, Al, Run." Gore didn't reply.

Boxer told the crowd that "if Al Gore was president - we know he won ... we wouldn't be at war in Iraq ... we would have gotten Bin Laden, and we'd be the leader on global warming."
