Major media declined to cover a Washington, DC conference challenging the idea of global warming last week.
About 250 people, including many researchers, attended the third annual International Conference on Climate Change. It was put on by The Heartland Institute and other conservative think tanks, The Virginian-Pilot reports.
The instituteā€™s President Joseph Bast was upset with the lack of media coverage. "We are seldom heard in the policy debate," he said. "If you open your newspaper, turn on your TV set, you're likely to see global warming alarmism, and nothing else."
He blasted the notion that we are sending pollutants into the air, particularly carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels, which are pushing temperatures up to unsafe levels. Thatā€™s a "popular delusion," Bast said.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) was even more forceful. "Al Gore has been wrong all along," he yelled into the microphone, according to The Pilot.
"This is outrageous! All of this is wrong! The people who have stifled this debate have an agenda that is just frightening!"
Conference attendees maintain the slow and small upward move in temperatures that has occurred over the years constitutes a natural cycle of our random weather patterns.
Global warming opponents say carbon dioxide doesnā€™t represent a pollutant that should be regulated, as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Supreme Court now decree.
The opponents point out that the chemical helps plant and sea life in some contexts.
Moderate Republicans have joined Democrats in their concern about global warming. Many Republican governors, for example, have urged Congress to take action against global warming.
