Party Committees Put Politicking on Hold

One of the few positive outcomes of last Saturday’s shooting tragedy in Tucson, Ariz., has been an increase in bipartisanship between Republicans and Democrats. For example, an “unspoken truce” has arisen between the two parties’ campaign committees in Washington, Politico reports.

“The daily barrage of press releases, slashing rhetoric and bare-knuckle politics that typically marks the partisan work of the committees has been, for the most part, put on pause,” the news service states. “In fact, the issue of electioneering and campaign rhetoric is so sensitive at the moment that none of the major campaign arms want to be quoted as speculating about the path forward.”

Still, political operates say it’s only a matter of time before conflict returns. “It would be amazing and wonderful if this changes the political discourse, but I don’t think it will,” a Democratic strategist tells Politico.
