Forbes.com Report: Newsmax Among 'Smartest Things on Web'

Monday, 23 February 2009 01:59 PM EST

Former Yahoo! honcho Nathan Richardson has been called the “most influential person in online finance,” and he believes Newsmax is one of the “smartest” entities on the Internet.

Richardson was recently profiled on Forbes.com, the popular Web site for Forbes magazine.

Forbes noted that in his five years at Yahoo! Finance, Richardson boosted annual revenue from $10 million to $110 million. He later became general manager at Dow Jones and is now chief executive of ContentNext Media, owner of the popular digital media blog PaidContent.

In a recent interview that appeared on Forbes magazine’s Web site, Richardson was asked: “What’s the smartest thing being done on the Web today?”

He cited online reality TV, including “American Idol,” and TalkingPointsMemo, then stated: “At the other end of the spectrum is Newsmax. They’ve captured an audience that’s different than what everyone views as mainstream news sites and are monetizing it incredibly well.”

Newsmax.com is the flagship Web site of Newsmax Media, a multi-media publisher based in West Palm Beach, Fla. Last year Newsmax’s popular Web site drew approximately 4 million unique visitors monthly.

Newsmax also publishes the award-winning Newsmax magazine, a financial Web site, Moneynews.com, as well as a host of health and financial newsletters. More than 2 million readers have opted-in for free email news alerts.
