Zogby Hits Bull's-Eye in Florida

Thursday, 31 January 2008 10:01 AM EST

Zogby International was nearly perfect in its polling of the close Republican presidential campaign battle in Florida, and also performed well in identifying that Democrat Barack Obama was building a huge lead over rival Hillary Clinton in South Carolina over the weekend.

In the final Florida GOP Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby two-day tracking poll released just hours before precincts across the Sunshine State began opening Tuesday for what ended up being an unusually heavy voter turnout, Zogby showed Arizona Sen. John McCain with a four-point lead over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. At the end of the evening, McCain’s margin was five points.

Zogby also came close to nailing third-place Rudy Giuliani’s exact percentage of support — the final Zogby survey had him at 13 percent, while he finished with 15 percent of the vote. Zogby had fourth-place Mike Huckabee of Arkansas winning 13 percent — he finished with 14 percent, while Zogby had Ron Paul at 2 percent, he finished with 3 percent of the vote.
