Comedian Blasts N.Y. Times at White House Dinner

By    |   Sunday, 27 April 2008 02:30 PM EDT

Speaking at Saturday night's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, Craig Ferguson, the rambunctious host of CBS' "Late Late Show," lit into The New York Times, telling the paper to "shut up."

"The New York Times unfortunately did not buy a table — they felt that this event undercuts the credibility of the press. Funny, I thought that Jason Blair and Judy Miller took care of that," Ferguson said, referring to two former Times reporters accused of falsifying stories,

According to Editor & Publisher, the remarks got some of the biggest laughs and applause moments of the evening.

“What? What did I say?" He asked in mock surprise. "What did I say? Did I go too far? Now let me try this: Shut the hell up, New York Times, you sanctimonious whining jerks!"

The audience went wild.
