Presidential hopeful John Edwards complains that Democratic rival Hillary Clinton is so overconfident that she’s acting as if she’s already won the nomination.
“Did I miss something? Did we already have the Iowa caucuses?” Edwards asked a gathering outside Harlan, Iowa. “Did we already have the New Hampshire primary?”
Edwards noted a recent New York Times story in which Clinton supporters said Hillary voted to brand Iran’s Republican Guards a terrorist group because she was switching from “primary mode” to “general election mode” and was trying to woo more conservative voters, the Des Moines Register reported.
“Have we decided who the nominee’s going to be?” Edwards queried. “Instead of having ‘primary mode’ or ‘general election mode,’ how about we have ‘telling the truth mode.’”
Clinton leads the Democratic field in most national polls, but Edwards and Barack Obama are in a tight race with Hillary in Iowa.
Clinton was the only Democratic presidential candidate to vote in favor of the Republican Guards measure, which Edwards said could give President Bush the authority to attack Iran.
