Talk radio host, best-selling author and Newsmax columnist Dr. Laura Schlessinger has made the cover of Talkers magazine, which honored Dr. Laura for her extensive charitable work.
Talkers gave Dr. Laura an award for “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host,” in particular citing her Operation Family Fund, which helps the families of American military personnel.
In making the award presentation, Talk Media, Inc. CEO Carole Marks said: “We are here to acknowledge the fact that this amazing woman is one of the most charitable community servants in our industry and an example of how the power of talk radio can be used productively to help others.”
Dr. Laura has raised more than $1 million for her Operation Family Fund — “an organization that operates with no overhead,” Talkers pointed out.
“That means ALL the money it raises — every single dollar — goes to providing help and support for the families of American military personnel whose lives have been severely impacted by serious injury or death in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.”
Dr. Laura designs and handcrafts her own jewelry, which she puts on sale on her Web site, and donates all the proceeds from her jewelry sales to her Operation Family Fund.
Talkers also cited Dr. Laura’s charitable work on behalf of abused and neglected children, Hurricane Katrina victims, and boys and girls clubs, among other causes.
The cover of Talkers’ September issue depicts Dr. Laura aboard a Harley-Davidson “trike” made for a handicapped Vietnam veteran. Money for the trike came from a motorcycle Dr. Laura donated for sale.
