Many Republicans want Michael Steele out as Republican National Committee chairman, and former Vice President Dick Cheney is clearly one of them. He will host a fundraiser next w
eek for Maria Cino, one
of several candidates vying for Steele’s job, Politico reports.
An invitation indicates the event will be at the home of ace Republican political strategist Mary Matalin. Ed Gillespie, another star GOP operative, will act as co-host. Gillespie played a big role in successful Republican fundraising efforts this year.
Cino was an aide to former President George W. Bush. She formalized her bid for the RNC chairmanship last week with the support of Cheney's daughter, Mary.
Two other candidates have officially announced their bids to replace Steele: Michigan committeeman Saul Anuzis and former Missouri chairwoman Ann Wagner.
