By    |   Friday, 21 January 2011 12:46 PM EST

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has come to terms with fellow Republicans who criticized his views about the Iraq war and Sept. 11 counterterrorism techniques. Some of Cheney's former colleagues in dick, cheney, iraq, war, trucethe administration of President George H.W. Bush, such as Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell, who also served under President George W. Bush, opposed some of Cheney’s stances as vice president.

Asked in an interview with NBC’s Brian Williams whether he had "made peace" with the critics, Cheney replied: "I prefer to think of it as a truce, Brian," USA Today reports.

"I was in the bunker under the White House on 9/11. I watched as the World Trade Center was destroyed, the Pentagon was hit and 3,000 Americans were killed. Never before had I seen an attack like that on the United States. And I was bound and determined, as was the president I then worked for, that that was never going to happen again on our watch."
