Former Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean has joined the law and lobbying firm of McKenna Long & Aldridge.
Dr. Dean, a physician and a former Governor of Vermont, was touted by his new firm as a person whose “network of relationships will benefit clients who are working in states and municipalities across the U.S.,” according to a report in the Washington Post.
Dean is joining a group of lobbyists that includes former Georgia governor Zell Miller, a man perhaps best known as the Democrat who blasted his own party and endorsed President George W. Bush at the 2004 Republican convention in New York.
The firm’s announcement referred to Dean as a “thought leader” on politics and policy, but, according to a quip from the Heritage Foundation, it remains to be seen if the former Presidential candidate has become de facto disqualified from a job in the Obama Administration.
“Of course, just because Dean now works for a lobbying firm does not actually disqualify him from an Obama Administration job. Despite President Barack Obama’s promise to the American people not to hire any lobbyists in his administration, he has already broken that promise almost two dozen times,” noted the Heritage Foundation in its Foundry blog.
