Dan Rather Slams CBS Overlords

By    |   Thursday, 28 February 2008 09:48 AM EST

Veteran newsman Dan Rather attacked “corporate overlords” at CBS who he charges are seeking to withhold key documents that could bolster his lawsuit against the network.

Rather maintains in his $70 million suit that CBS removed him from his position as anchor of “CBS Evening News” to gain favor with the White House after Rather aired a September 2004 report questioning George Bush’s Vietnam-era military service.

“It is a fact that corporate overlords working in secret collusion with the powers in Washington are intruding far too often in far too many newsrooms,” Rather said.

The documents that Rather seeks include a private investigator’s report that he believes could support his version of the disputed story about Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard, according to the New York Daily News.

CBS has countered that it is “absolutely confident” the documents support its position.
