Ann Coulter Strikes Funny Bone at CPAC

By    |   Sunday, 01 March 2009 01:10 PM EST

Conservative author Ann Coulter brought the house down in a hilarious, if not biting, speech delivered to a packed house at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

Coulter – whose popularity forced her to hold two book signings after her speech – entered the hall Saturday to the strains of “We Will Rock You” and promptly launched into well-delivered one-liners that were full of venom.

Coulter lampooned everything from the media comparing President Barack Obama to Jesus and taking on the role of “government guard dog,” to MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews being “government lapdogs.”

The crowd, which was extremely enthusiastic, felt more like it was attending a stand-up comedy routine than a conservative political speech.

Some of Coulter's quips included:

  • “Apparently the media likes carpenters. It’s plumbers they hate.”

  • “I guess that’s the end of Obama’s honeymoon with the press. He’s not Jesus. Now he’s just Lincoln. And I forget. How many times did Lincoln vote present?”

  • “If Obama thinks the people really want change, wait till 2012.”

  • “It’s amazing the media keeps comparing Obama to Lincoln and Reagan. The press apparently can’t think of a Democrat worthy enough to compare him to.”
