Saturday, 08 January 2011 04:23 PM EST

WASHINGTON (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is condemning the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and says there's no place for such senseless acts of violence.

Napolitano says she's deeply saddened by the shooting of Giffords, federal Judge John Roll and others attacked Saturday in Tucson, Arizona.

She says the Homeland Security Department has offered all possible assistance to the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff's Office, who are leading the investigation.
