Hillary Smiles at Bush Bastard Comment

Monday, 04 February 2008 09:24 PM EST

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton smiled over the weekend when a woman at a town hall meeting referred to President Bush as "the bastard."

Clinton was in Bridgeton, Mo., and taking questions from the audience, according to the Los Angeles Times' politics blog. An elderly woman asked Clinton about a rumored economic union among the United States, Canada and Mexico. The woman said "Bush the bastard" planned to implement the secret agreement in 2010.

The heavily Democratic crowd roared in approval, and Clinton nodded her head slightly and smiled.

When the noise died down, she said "there's not a lot of truth to" the rumor.

The incident was reminiscent of a similar scene last year in South Carolina when a woman in South Carolina asked Sen. John McCain about Clinton, calling her "the bitch."
