Christie: ‘I Love Collective Bargaining’

By    |   Thursday, 03 March 2011 01:26 PM EST

New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie has eagerly taken on public employee unions in his state. But that doesn’t mean he favors restricting the unions’ collective bargaining rights like some other Republican governors, such as Scott Walker of Wisconsin, The Hill reports.

At a town hall meeting in Hillsborough, N.J., Wednesday, Christie said he’s eager to negotiate with unions to solve their disputes, The Associated Press reports. “In fact, I love collective bargaining," he said. "I've said let's get rid of civil service and let everything be collectively bargained, as long as collective bargaining is fair, tough, adversarial and there's someone in that room representing you."

To be sure, that doesn’t mean Christie has begun a love affair with the unions. "Let me at them. Get me out of the cage and let me go," he said.
