Capuano Regrets Calling for 'Bloody' Action

It looked more than a tad hypocritical when Rep. Michael Capuano, D-Mass., one of the loudest to criticize impassioned Republican rhetoric after the shooting of Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Tuesday called for union workers to “get a little bloody.” So as news spread of the remarks Wednesday, he backtracked, The Boston Globe reports.

capuano, bloody, unions“I strongly believe in standing up for worker rights, and my passion for preserving those rights may have gotten the best of me yesterday in an unscripted speech,’’ Capuano said in a statement. “I wish I had used different language to express my passion, and I regret my choice of words.’’

At a rowdy gathering of about 1,000 union workers at the State House Tuesday, Capuano said, “I’m proud to be with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an Email that gets you going. Every once in a while you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary.’’
