Arizona Gov. Brewer: Obama Disrespected Me

By    |   Friday, 21 Oct 2011 11:59 AM

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer takes some pointed shots at President Barack Obama in her new book, "Scorpions for Breakfast: My Fight Against Special Interests, Liberal Media, and Cynical Politicos to Secure America's Border.” In a June 2010 meeting in the White House, Obama was “patronizing,” she writes, according to The Arizona Republic.

"We sat down and started with some chitchat," Brewer says. "But after a few minutes, the president's tone got serious — and condescending. . . . He lectured me." At the time Brewer called the conversation cordial, perhaps not wanting to go public with her true thoughts.

Brewer hammers Obama throughout the book. In particular, she takes him to task for publicly mocking Arizona and its strong immigration law that Brewer championed in comments he made at the White House Correspondents dinner earlier this year.

In addition, the president "just blew me off and walked away" when she tried to speak with him before a commencement speech he gave at Arizona State University in May 2009, Brewer writes.

The majority of the book focuses on the controversial immigration law — Senate Bill 1070. "In the end, the story of SB 1070 is the story of an arrogant, out-of-control federal government," Brewer writes.

"We passed a law to protect ourselves because the federal government wouldn't. And what did we get for our effort? We were demonized and called racists. We were sued and treated like subjects instead of citizens."
