Bob Novak Strikes Pedestrian in Washington

By    |   Wednesday, 23 July 2008 04:20 PM EDT

Robert Novak, the syndicated columnist who first publicly revealed Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA operative, reportedly hit a pedestrian while driving his Corvette to work this morning on K Street in Washington, D.C.

Novak said he was issued a $50 citation by D.C. police after incident that featured a bicycle messenger witness who chased Novak down after the impact with the victim, a man in his 60s who sustained only minor injuries and who was treated at the local hospital.

The 77-year-old conservative pundit told the Washington Post he had no idea he had hit anyone until he was flagged down by witnesses, including the bicycle messenger who called D.C. police.

Novak recalled that the bicyclist was "shouting at me that I couldn't just hit people and drive away. But I didn't know I'd hit him. I really didn't have any idea it happened until they flagged me down and told me."

Somewitnesses at the scene, however, opined that Novak may not have seen the pedestrian before the impact, but must have seen him as he bounced up into his windshield.

The accident happened in slow-moving traffic about 10 a.m. as Novak was headed north on 18th Street NW near K Street.
