According to talk-radio legend Bob Grant, Radio & Records magazine decided against awarding him a lifetime achievement award after receiving an e-mail that recalled remarks he made back in the 1990s.
The decision “could be laughable except it is tragic," Grant says.
Speaking about what he calls “a stalker out there,” whose e-mail complaint to R&R included comments made by Grant over a decade ago, Grant warns that the incident is part of a dangerous trend.
“It’s tragic because it’s a reflection, not on me. But a reflection on what is going on in this country today,” Grant tells Newsmax.
“Everybody is so intimidated. It doesn’t make any difference who it is — they send e-mails threatening and companies fold like a cheap camera.”
Grants remarks appear on a list compiled by the deceptively named Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting group (FAIR).
“They have been anything but fair,” Grant said. “They are vicious, absolutely cruel, and have constantly put out information that is really slanted. The pathetic thing is there are some people who don’t know about FAIR and they will take it seriously thinking ‘Oh gee, Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting — this must be an official organization.’
“It’s not official at all,” Grant said. “It’s a bunch of left-wing vicious people.”
Grant turns his attention to Steve Rendall, a member of the Fair staff who told The Washington Times that his staff members transcribed the e-mailed comments from tapes of Grant's show, whom he says has obsessively harassed him for years. “He keeps regurgitating the same things I said back in the early '90s. There’s no statute of limitations.”
Despite R&R's craven behavior, the whole episode had a happy ending Sean Hannity told Grant Thursday night on Hannity & Colmes.
Said Sean, "There's an update to all of this . . . at the Talker's convention in June, Michael Harrison's group Talkers Magazine will honor you with a lifetime achievement award."
