Blagojevich Seeks Interview Notes with Obama

Monday, 04 April 2011 07:40 AM EDT

CHICAGO (AP) — Rod Blagojevich wants the government to hand over notes of any investigator interviews with President Barack Obama about the former Illinois governor's corruption case.

The defense made the request in a motion filed early Monday with the U.S. District Court in Chicago. It comes less than three weeks before the impeached governor's retrial is scheduled to start on April 20.

The presiding judge rejected a similar request before Blagojevich's first trial.

The defense has argued that the president may have knowledge pertinent to allegations Blagojevich sought to sell or trade Obama's vacated U.S. Senate seat.

Obama has never been accused of any wrongdoing in the case. But the defense says he could bolster their contention that Blagojevich never did anything criminal and merely engaged in legal political wheeling and dealing.
