Bill Clinton: VP Not in Cards

Wednesday, 05 September 2007 10:02 AM EDT

Former President Bill Clinton shot down speculation that he could seek the vice president post in 2008 and run on the Democratic ticket with any presidential nominee – including his wife Hillary.

“I just don’t believe it’s consistent with the spirit of the Constitution for someone who’s been president twice to be elected vice president,” Clinton said on Tuesday night’s “Late Show with David Letterman.”

“I don’t think it’s right and I wouldn’t want to do that … That’s just not in the cards.”

Clinton was on the show to discuss his new book “Giving,” the New York Sun reported. He said Hillary’s campaign gave him clear instructions for his promotional appearances: Don’t make news.

Clinton did discuss the presidential campaign, however, saying GOP candidate Rudy Giuliani, despite his liberal positions on social issues, has “proved to be more durable so far than I kind of thought he would be.”
